The Culture of Dates
Tammar is the classic Arabic word for date merchant or a person trading in dates.
Dates are an integral part of Arabic culture and islamic identity to nearly 2 Billion people globally.
Whether the fruit is called tamr (Arabic), khajoor (Urdu), hurmah (Turkish), or buah kurma (Indonesian), it is a part of every muslim household anywhere in the world.

The date palm is mentioned more than any other fruit bearing plant in the Qur’an and it has been narrated that the beloved Prophet Muhammad PBUH, said that the Ajwa dates, grown in the Madina province of Saudi Arabia, are from paradise. It is further narrated, that eating 7 Ajwa dates daily protects one from evil spells.
The founder of Tammar, Mr. Ibrahim Al Shahrani Abu Khalid, was fascinated with his family’s date-farms and truly appreciated the integral and vital part the date-fruit played in day-to-day life in Arabia. Dates are served at all events from weddings to business meetings or just a casual gathering. They are something essential and a token of hospitality – anytime people meet, there will be Dates.
This passion and love for the fruit, turned into a business and Tammar Dates was born.
